HIV/AIDS RESEARCH — DETAILS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

In 2004, 2006 and 2008, AIDSVote.org and the Campaign to End AIDS have consistently recommended increased funding for research to find a cure for HIV/AIDS, more effective treatments and better prevention tools.

American leadership in science and research has been crucial to historic advances against the AIDS pandemic. Basic, clinical, prevention, operations, social, and policy research are all critical to the effort to end AIDS.

The AIDSVote 08 platform calls for funding to increase funding at the National Institutes of Health, passage of the Microbicide Development Act to coordinate federal research in this important area, and for a diverse portfolio of prevention research. We also support operations research as part of HIV/AIDS initiatives worldwide, to assure that treatment, prevention and care programs are effective and successful.
